What we don't do

We don't have Luton or long-wheelbase vans, and we no longer hold a clearance licence for probate, garden or furniture clearances. We can recommend reliable local companies for both. We also don't offer a packing service.

Why the price is low

We're a small family firm. We don't pay for an office, a warehouse or extra staff, and we already work with regular business customers, so our costs stay low and we pass that on.

Our hourly rate is the same on weekdays, evenings and weekends. Weekends and evenings book up quickly, so call early.

If you've been quoted less by another local man and van, tell us when you call and we'll aim to match it.

Compared with hiring a van yourself, there's no large deposit to risk and you only pay for the time we're carrying your things.

Spend less time, pay less

You pay by time, so a little preparation lowers your bill.

  • Clear out what you don't need before you move.
  • Pack and label every box by room before we arrive, such as kitchen, bedroom or lounge.
  • Keep the pickup and drop-off points easy to reach, and leave space for the van.
  • Help us load and unload heavy items. It's cheaper than paying for a second person.

The van comes with a trolley, removal blankets and SatNav.

Where we work

Thames Ditton is a village in Surrey. Historically, many of the people who lived in Thames Ditton were employed at Hampton Court or at the bronze founders A.B. Burton & Co. As the River Thames was tidal all the way up to Sunbury and there were no bridges, locals would have to pass through Thames Ditton High Street and over what is now a slipway through the ford to the other side at low tide. The King would have been rowed up the Thames from Westminster to his country Palace, but around Thames Ditton the river would have van narrowed. To better facilitate his arrival he had the Thames straightened. This isolated pieces of land which became the three Thames Ditton Islands. Before water levels were controlled by weirs Summer Road in Thames Ditton would flood at high tide and be barely passable at all in the winter months, hence its name. Another claim to fame was the AC car factory which produced cars and vans from 1911. Most famously AC appears to have been blamed for the introduction of the UK 70mph limit after an AC Cobra was clocked at 196mph! Common questions

How is the price worked out?

It's £50 for the first hour (the minimum), then £25 for every extra half hour. The clock runs from when we reach you until the job is finished. Waiting time is charged at the normal hourly rate.

Is there VAT on top?

No. We're not VAT registered, so the price you're quoted is what you pay, apart from any parking charges, tolls or ULEZ charges.

Can I book you for a weekend or evening?

Yes, and the rate doesn't change. Those slots fill up fast, so call as early as you can.

What if my move is upstairs or not local?

Moves to the first floor cost £10 extra. For anything higher, or for jobs outside the local area, tell us the details when you call and we'll give you a quote.

Are my belongings insured?

We take great care of your things, but we can't know their value. Our total liability is limited to £50. If you're moving something valuable, please arrange your own cover.

What if I need to cancel?

We set time aside for every booking, so cancelling within 24 hours of the booking is charged at one hour.

Terms and conditions

  • Time and resources are set aside for your booking, so cancellations within 24 hours incur a one-hour charge.
  • We do not move building or garden waste.
  • Please check dimensions beforehand. We can't be held responsible if an item is too big for your home.
  • Waiting time is charged at the normal hourly rate.
  • We always take maximum care of your possessions, but because we don't know the value of your items, our total liability is limited to £50.
  • Customers must arrange parking at the address, or pay any parking fines incurred.
  • All goods must be packed and ready when we arrive. We don't offer a packing service, and we accept no liability for damage to incorrectly packed goods.
